Not all X-Ray packs work on 1.8. Search for “Minecraft 1.8 X-Ray Texture Pack” on trusted resource sites like CurseForge, Planet Minecraft, or Wurst’s archives. Ensure the pack specifies 1.8 or 1.8.9. The file will be a .zip folder—do not unzip it.
Some older X-Ray packs fail to load if zipped incorrectly.
Step 1: Unzip your X-Ray pack into a normal folder.
Step 2: Inside the folder, check for pack.mcmeta and assets folder.
Step 3: Re-zip the contents of the folder (not the folder itself). Name it Xray_Fixed.zip.
Step 4: Move this new zip into .minecraft/resourcepacks and activate. x ray minecraft 18 8 texture pack install
X-Ray packs rely on you seeing things in the dark.
Because X-Ray packs are popular, malicious actors create fake downloads containing viruses. Never download an .exe file claiming to be a texture pack. Legitimate X-Ray packs are only .zip files or folders. Not all X-Ray packs work on 1
Most X-Ray packs work best when there is no darkness. Many packs come with a custom potion effect built-in, or you can drink a Night Vision potion. If you are in singleplayer and don't have potions, you can usually enable "Cheats" and type:
/effect @p night_vision 99999 1 true
❌ Multiplayer servers – Most servers (even non-anticheat ones) will still see you mining through solid stone because the server sends block data, not textures. You’ll look like you’re staring at a wall, but you’ll see ores. However, many servers now block X-ray texture packs by checking movement/raycasting patterns — you can still be banned. Most X-Ray packs work best when there is no darkness
❌ No support for newer features – This is stuck in 1.8.8. Won’t work on 1.16+ without updating manually.
❌ Aesthetic destruction – The game looks ugly. You see caves, void, floating ores. Not for normal gameplay.
An X-ray texture pack for Minecraft 1.8 replaces block textures so valuable blocks (ores, chests, lava, water, etc.) are easy to see, effectively making them visible through surrounding stone.
