I tested Synthage 1.3 KONTAKT on a 2023 Mac Studio (M2 Ultra) running Logic Pro 11, as well as a Windows PC running Cubase 13. Synthage 1.3 KONTAKT
The installation is straightforward via Native Access, though the library is large—35 GB uncompressed (21 GB compressed download). The initial batch resave took about 10 minutes, but once completed, the library is rock solid.
The standout workflow feature is MIDI Multi-Output. You can route the four internal sound layers (A, B, C, D) to separate mixer tracks in your DAO. This is essential for mixing; you can put a low-cut filter on the sub-bass layer while saturating the lead synth layer.
One minor criticism: The GUI, while beautiful (a retro-futuristic cyan/black design), is dense. New users may spend an hour learning the difference between "Global FX" and "Layer FX." However, Sample Logic includes 20 video tutorials inside the "Info" tab, which mitigates the learning curve. Subject: 🔥 Synthage 1
At a retail price of $199 (with a $49 upgrade fee for previous owners), Synthage 1.3 KONTAKT sits in the mid-range of hybrid scoring tools. Considering the 450 presets, the massive 35 GB sample pool, and the new drag-and-drop MIDI workflow, it offers excellent value.
The sonic clarity is exceptional. Unlike some hybrid libraries that sound distorted when you play more than three notes, Synthage maintains headroom thanks to its intelligent voice-stealing algorithm.
