If you have lost the admin password, MDaemon provides a specific feature/utility to reset it. This is the legitimate "feature" related to password management.

How to reset the Admin Password:

  • This tool allows you to define a new password for the primary administrator account without needing to know the old one.
  • A: No, not for any official version. Some very old cracked or pirated copies used "mdaemon" as a default, but that is not standard and indicates an illegitimate or tampered installation.

    If you inherited a server and do not know the admin password, you cannot simply "reset" it to default without data access.

    To recover access, you generally need local access to the server machine itself:

  • Once in the Account Manager, locate the admin account and assign a new password.
  • Navigate to C:\MDaemon\App\ and open Accounts.ini in Notepad.

    Look for a section like this:

    [Admin@yourdomain.com]
    MailboxName=Admin
    Password=encrypted_string_here

    Delete or rename the Password line entirely. Save the file.

    If default credentials are still enabled, take the following actions immediately:

    By default, MDaemon installs with:

    The default WebAdmin (HTTP/HTTPS) and Remote Administration login uses the same credentials.

    A: No. For security reasons, all password reset methods require local service access or Windows administrator rights on the machine. This prevents remote attackers from bypassing authentication.

    MDaemon includes a tool called MDResetPwd.exe (located in the MDaemon App folder). To use it:

    Warning: This requires physical or remote desktop access to the server. It does not work over the web interface (WorldClient).
