Hzdx.shx Font May 2026
Since SHX fonts derive from the IBM extended ASCII set, use these codes (hold ALT + number on numpad):
| Symbol | Code | Result |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| Ø (Diameter) | 0216 | Shows if font includes it |
| ± (Plus/Minus) | 0177 | Often supported |
| ° (Degree) | 0176 | Commonly missing → use %%d instead |
| %%d | N/A | Degree symbol in AutoCAD |
| %%p | N/A | ± |
| %%c | N/A | Ø |
AutoCAD-specific control codes (work in DTEXT, MTEXT):
Hzdx.shx is an SHX-format vector font used primarily with CAD software (like AutoCAD). SHX fonts store glyphs as stroke-based polylines and simple shapes, making them compact and resolution-independent for drafting and technical drawings. Hzdx.shx Font
While Hzdx.shx is excellent, the CAD world has moved slightly. You should be aware of modern alternatives:
| Font Name | Type | Best For | Compatibility | | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | | Hzdx.shx | Monoline SHX | Dense dimensions; small text | Requires manual install in EN AutoCAD | | Hztxt.shx | Monoline SHX | General notes; better legibility | Ships with AutoCAD China | | Gbcbig.shx | Monoline SHX | Modern GB standard (compliant) | Ships with all AutoCAD versions 2018+ | | Simplex.shx + Big Font | Mixed | Western characters + hzdx | Universal |
Recommendation: If you are starting a new project, use Gbcbig.shx. It is the official font included in Autodesk’s global installer and will never cause a missing SHX error on a vanilla AutoCAD installation. Since SHX fonts derive from the IBM extended
Type STYLE (or go to Annotate > Text Style). Select the style that uses Hzdx.shx. If the font name appears without an exclamation mark (yellow triangle), it is installed.
In AutoCAD’s Text Style manager, you will see two drop-downs:
Hzdx.shx is technically a Big Font. You must pair it with a Western .shx font. The standard pairing is: Type STYLE (or go to Annotate > Text Style)
If you leave the SHX Font blank or pick a TrueType font, the alignment of Chinese and English letters will be off (the numbers will float above the Chinese text).
You open the file, and every Chinese character is a question mark (?).
Cause: The text style is defined, but the current machine cannot find Hzdx.shx. OR the text style is set to a TTF font that doesn't support the character set.
If you cannot find the actual Hzdx.shx file, force AutoCAD to substitute a similar font:
