ਪ੍ਰਾਚੀਨ ਕਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਨਗਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਗਰੀਬ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸਦੇ ਘਰ ਖਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ – "ਮਹਾਰਾਜ, ਮੈਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖੀ ਹਾਂ। ਕੋਈ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਉਪਾਅ ਦੱਸੋ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋਣ।"
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ – "ਬੇਟਾ, ਤੂੰ 16 ਸੋਮਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਵਰਤ ਕਰ। ਪੂਰੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਭਾਵ ਨਾਲ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰ। ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ।"
ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਸਨੇ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ 16 ਸੋਮਵਾਰ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਸਦੀ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਬਦਲਣ ਲੱਗੀ। ਉਸਦਾ ਵਪਾਰ ਚੱਲ ਪਿਆ। ਖੇਤੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਹੋਣ ਲੱਗੀ। ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਖੁਸ਼ਹਾਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
